xx is for winners
the crossers finally (finally, FINALLY!) won a scrimmage last night.
yes, the other team was missing three all-stars, but we skated 8 and didn’t field a jammer 40% of the time.
i know winning isn’t everything, but FUCK was i sick of getting my ass beat.

I’m sure you’re not surprised, but “I just want to cuddle and not be alone” is actually not something I can just say to someone.
So,I’m backing out of my date. Via text. Because I am a HORRIBLE PERSON who deserves to be alone.
sigh
bout footage
i can’t believe how bad i look when i watch bout footage.
like, by no small stretch do i ever think of myself as a great player, but i look back on this footage and i just want to die. i’m embarrassed that i’ve ever asked anyone to come watch me play.
It is possible I have a second date tomorrow. (have I mentioned how bad I am at this whole dating thing?)
I’m excited, but also wishing we were way beyond this dating stage already—not because I just want to fuck (although I do), but because I have been sick and I really don’t have it in me to be cute or entertaining. I just want to cuddle and not be alone for a minute. Is that...

Are there people who fetishize bathing others?
Because I’m totally open to some sort of situation that allows me to continue falling asleep in the tub (or someone else’s much cleaner tub!) after practice, but also gets me clean before the water gets cold.

The Manic Attackers Electrocute the Double... →
With 3 Double Crossers in the penalty box, Cruel Whip and Julia Rosenwinkel were forced to do all of the heavy lifting. The Manics were able to keep Cruel Whip back, leaving a huge opening for Rose Feratu to bring home the bacon with a half time score of 92-15.
what this paragraph doesn’t convey is that, for a few moments, i was the only double crosser on the track and, even though the...

second wind
it still hasn’t sunk in for me that i made the second wind. i was out of town for both the tryout and the first practice, so it just doesn’t feel real.
don’t even get me started on how i made it without the actual tryout. i mean, i get that they’ve been watching our practices, scrimmages and games, but i didn’t even think i would survive the tryout, let alone make...

the automatic diet planner →
If you’ve ever tried to do make a custom diet plan by hand, you know that it’s a pain in the ass.
I just need someone to tell me what the eat. Yeah, some of these “meals” aren’t quite appetizing, but it’s a good jumping off point.

double losses for this double crosser
i wish i had more to say about my first bout as a double crosser, but bout amnesia is a real bitch.
overall, i sucked relative to my abilities. the environment was overwhelming. the other teams played on a level i hadn’t seen at scrimmage. and i was just kind of asleep at the wheel. as always, i spent a good chunk of the first bout wondering if maybe this sport/league/team were right for...

trying to think of something nice/fun/inspirational to say/do/make/buy for my teammates tomorrow to make up for the fact i’ve made myself so physically ill over the thought of having to be in a room with them off-skates tonight that i’m just going to go straight home and go to sleep instead.
thoughts?
bonus points if it’s something that i can just leave in the locker room and...

skating in my first bout with the double crossers tomorrow. i’d like to say i’m excited, but i’m just full of all kinds of anxiety about our team dinner tonight—so much so that i probably won’t even go.
and then i’ll feel bad/weird/regretful about it.
so. that’s awesome.

bout week is bananas
if you asked me which was more unbearable: the seven-month recovery from my broken ankle or trying to choke down a banana every day during bout week, i think you’d be surprised by my answer.

spent some time working on my form with julia rosenwinkel this saturday. it’s kind of funny that it took two years for someone to help me figure out exactly how i was wasting all my energy, because, as strong as i am, i really should be a fast skater.
so, this month, i’ll be focusing on the left leg portion of the crossover motion. i’m sure there were other tips, but, for the...

I has teh derby sads.
Tell me what gets you through those sweltering summer insurances practices. Make me laugh about your derby funnies. Explain how your derby wife or some positively cheerleadery type brings you out of a funk when you’re determined to have a pity party.
Does this thing have an askhole? You should put all the things all up in that bitch.

My first article on roller derby
kimelsham:
I have played roller derby since Fall 2007, and I’ve been writing articles since about 2002, but this is the first time that I wrote an article on roller derby for publication.
This is about Derby Lite, a recreational roller derby organization in suburban Chicago.
The embed code was funky, so here’s the direct URL to the virtual issue:...
