i love my new skates, but they don’t love me back.
so, because my first pair of skates were so big, i never really had to break them in. my new skates are proving much more difficult. the first day, i last 20 minutes. the second day, i spent and hour or so at an open skate, with just a few breaks. and, today, i managed to hold out through a two hour practice.
now, i think i have a pretty high pain tolerance, but at no point was it unbearable. i definitely took a few moments to take the weight off my feet, but i didn’t have to sit out any drills.
but, holy fuck, when i took those skates off it was nuts. i couldn’t stand on my feet. i couldn’t bear to flex them. and i sort of had this moment of panic where the pain was almost on the level of the day i broke my leg and i was thinking, “i need to do something, but the only two things i can think of are impossible.”
eventually, i was able to start small with the flexing and some massaging and it all worked out, but i am not looking forward to experiencing that ever again.
also, now i have blisters, and i am super-pissed about that, because it means i need to not skate until they heal and that means not getting these boots broken in before my league’s practices resume.
